This project will be reviewing many dozens, possibly even hundreds, of oral histories, currently in the safe keeping of West Sussex Record Office, the oldest of which were recorded by Tony Wales in the 1950’s, who was then interviewing people born in the 1870’s and 1880’s. There are also recordings conducted by Chris Hare in the 1990’s and 2000’s.
These interviews, on audio cassette, are in danger of being lost to the ravages of time. This project will ensure these unique interviews are digitised and transcripts produced of each interview, allowing far greater accessibility and conservation of these very special historical resources.
